Kanyashree Prakalpa

Kanyashree Prakalpa is an initiative of Government of West Bengal to provide financial assistance to the girls, aged of 13-18 who belong to the economically backward classes.

The scheme was founded by Hon’bel Chief Minister of West Bengal on 8th March 2013 and the scheme was publicized on 14th August 2013 by a state wide events and awareness programs.

The Scheme goes much beyond financial enablement – its communication strategy not only builds awareness of the scheme, but includes adolescent-friendly approaches like events, competitions and Kanyashree clubs, and the endorsement of strong women figures as role models to promote social and psychological empowerment.

Objective of the Scheme: The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to the girls who belong to the poor families so that they can pursue a higher education and to stop untimely marriage of girls. It has been given international recognition by the United Nations Department of International Development and the UNICEF.

Beneficiary:

A girl Children within the age of 13 to 19 years from families with annual income 1.2 lakh, girls regularly attending the institution.

Benefits:

Annual Scholarship of Rs. 500, one time grant of Rs. 25000
